Is Motivation Getting In The Way Of Your Dreams?

Motivation Getting In The Way Of Your Success

When you wake up in the morning, what is the passion that fuels you to start your day?  Are you living this in your work?  If I asked you what drives you to achieve.. What would you say is your motivation!

Are you not achieving your goals because of a lack of motivation?  Are you not achieving your goals because of a lack of motivation? Last week, I mentioned that only 9.2% of individuals who make New Year’s Resolutions keep them!  9.2%!!  Astonishing. I use to be part of the 90.8%. I use to make up horrific resolutions, such as, “eat more,” “exercise less” in hopes that they would fail. Sad I know! But I am serious!
If you are unsure how to set up goals, I have you covered check out this post!
“Staying motivated to suceed” isn’t a new age concept. The idea has been pondered by motivational speakers, large corporation, coaches, the list goes on… for years. People desire to achieve their goals and make their lives better. Thousands of people pay money to go and listen to motivational speakers, such as Tony Robbins. They leave the seminar, excited, empowered and ready to conquer the world!
However..  3 days out, a week out, a month out… the excitement, motivation to “conquer the world” dissipates.

There isn’t a simple answer or formula to why individuals who are ready to win… lose motivation.

What I am speaking about today isn’t just “work” goals… These could be personal goals such as:
  • Getting Into Shape

  • Completing a 5k, 10k, half marathon or marathon

  • Making & Staying On A Financial Budget

  • Healthy Eating

  • Saving To Purchase A Home

  • Breaking Bad Habits

This list goes on… everyone has goals or wants to improve themselves in some way.
Everyone’s motivated for different reasons. Large corporations give their employees personality test, such as Myers-Briggs or DISC. They try to determine behaviorial patterns and to help motivate their employees. The idea is that they want their employees to achieve goals and to perform better.
Figuring out what motivates individuals has been around for decades. Everyone is trying to figure out what the  formula is!
Most people think that money is the largest motivator, but that isn’t true for all people. Now.. if you are working in a job that you are unhappy with and you gotta pay the bills.  You get out of bed to pay the bills. For me, achieving and being successful is my motivator.  Money is not a huge factor for me! Working on projects, interacting with my clients, being the best I can be is what motivates me.  Deadlines are a big influence in my motivation!

What is going to motivate you?  What is going to keep you on track? How are you going to keep the initial excitement of “I’m going to conquer the world attitude” in 2018??

Go back to the goals that you made for 2018 and ask yourself,  “How is this going to impact my life?” What positive attributes is this goal going to have to affect my life?”
I suggest, handwriting your goals and the positive attributes that they bring you. Posting them in a place where you can see them… They are relevant, you see them, they are more likely to happen.
I have proof… in the beginning of 2017, I made a list of task and activities that I wanted to achieve that year. I used bright colored markers, an 11″x 8.5” paper and posted them on my refrigerator and also on the mirror in my bathroom. I had a list on my phone and in my car!
There was something refreshing about marking off the goals and task as I completed them. Coming from someone who use to make horrible New Year’s Resolutions. In my mind if I failed, which always happened, I was winning. This was big!

How can you stay motivated? How can you stay on track to accomplishing your goals and dreams? Figuring out what is ultimately going to motivate you. Tweaking your mindset and behaviors will help you achieve and surpass your goals! Below is a list of items that can help you stay motivated in 2018.

  • Write Down Your Goals In Your Own Handwriting & Post Them Where You Will See Them Daily

  • Make A Daily T0-Do List, Check Off Items That You Complete

I love your idea of listing out your goals on a physical piece of paper and literally crossing them off throughout the year. Seeing that progress would be a huge motivator for me. Thanks for sharing this! Cheers to a great year!
